Light and Dark ’10

Accept and Proceed — Light and Dark ’10 (poster, 2009)

The artworks depict the hours of light and dark in the UK, this year they also depict the astronomical twilight, so the fade that you see is the rate at which  the earth lightens up sunrise through to sunset.

Antwerp

In the 16th century, Antwerp was noted for the wealth of its citizens (“Antwerpia nummis”); the houses of these wealthy merchants and manufacturers have been preserved throughout the city. However fire has destroyed several old buildings, such as the house of the Hanseatic League on the northern quays in 1891. Much of the architecture is grand C19 (as above) The neo baroque in evidence throughout.

The City Out My Window: 63 Views on New York

I’ve read about this book in the New York Times some time ago and to my great surprise my mom gave it to me for Christmas. I’m so ecstatic. Essentially, the illustrator Matteo Pericoli sketched the view outside the window of famous creative figures living in New York. Accompanying the drawing is a short description of the view by the homeowner. I think this is a really beautiful gesture. The character of the drawings are very humanistic in their imperfections but the line work is exquisite and really a pleasure to study. The simple explanation of the views by the homeowners are also just as entertaining and enlightening. The book is presented in a very minimal, direct format which the content demands. The one thing that I’m slightly unhappy with is the book’s cover which you can find elsewhere online (I don’t like to post images of things I dislike). The die-cutting, graphics, and bold text varieties are a bit much and overpower the contents of the book. But overall it is a stunning work and something I will take great joy paging through for many years to come, I am sure. Highly recommended.

The Pen Addict

http://www.penaddict.com/

I’m by no means a pen aficionado. In fact, I happened upon this website a little while ago by accident yet I actually really enjoy it. I love that a group of people can appreciate things that many others deem insignificant in their lives. This particular blog has a nice aesthetic structure to it so I wanted to point it out but there are many other linked blogs on this site which are pretty enjoyable to browse. Who knows, maybe you’ll discover a new interest.
